Nick Saban will not restrict his coaches from using Twitter

Nick Saban grin

The Twitter activity of a Texas A&M assistant coach this week led to a few Aggies recruits decommitting from the school, raising the issue about whether coaches should have their social media usage limited in some way. Nick Saban says he will not do such a thing, instead leaving it up to his Alabama assistant coaches to be smart about the way they utilize their accounts.

“We don’t have rules that people can’t use Twitter,” Saban said Friday via AL.com. “We just want people to be responsible. We certainly don’t want them to do anything that’s going to affect themselves in an adverse way or affect our program, our university or our team in an adverse way.”

Saban himself doesn’t use social media and says he does not even text for fear of having things taken the wrong way. He emphasizes that he just wants his people to be responsible with what they’re doing.

Apparently whatever Lane Kiffin has been doing on Twitter — such as sharing his newfound love of bitmojis — hasn’t crossed any lines for Saban.

No word on whether or not Kiffin’s alleged Tindering is Saban-approved.
