Nick Saban signs extension with Alabama

Nick Saban

Despite recurring rumors every offseason linking him to NFL jobs and even a few collegiate head coaching vacancies, all indications are that Nick Saban is serious about staying at Alabama.

Alabama announced on Tuesday that the school’s university board of trustees’ compensation committee has approved a new three-year extension for Saban, which will keep him under contract with the Tide through 2024. Steve Berkowitz of USA Today reports that Saban is getting a $4 million signing bonus and will make $11.125 million this upcoming season.

The total value on Saban’s eight-year deal is now $65 million, which puts him at an average annual salary of $8.125 million. That should make him the highest-paid coach in college football for the time being.

No matter how many rumors we hear about Saban considering another jump to the NFL, the 65-year-old coach continues to insist he is retiring in Tuscaloosa. The financials certainly make it seem like he is telling the truth.
