Nick Saban said to be ‘unhappy’ in green room over Alabama draft snubs

Nick Saban Alabama

Alabama did not have the best day in the draft on Thursday as many of their players projected to be selected in the first round went undrafted. That apparently did not sit too well with Nick Saban, no surprise.

Saban attended the first night of the draft in Chicago to celebrate with his players, who were about to experience life-changing moments. Out of their top prospects — Jarran Reed, Reggie Ragland, Ryan Kelly and A’Shawn Robinson — only Kelly was taken in the first round. Consequently Pro Football Talk reports that Saban looked “unhappy” in the green room.

To be fair, it’s not often that Saban looks happy, so the “unhappy” description could just be a poor description of the coach’s typical demeanor. We’ve heard people describe him as generally intimidating.

But why would he have been happy? He was probably expecting many of his players to be drafted, and only one went. The night was certainly disappointing for him and his players.

Making matters worse, one of Saban’s biggest rivals in college football — Urban Meyer — was also present and saw five of his Ohio State Buckeyes drafted in the first round. Combining the lack of Bama players drafted with Ohio State’s success, it’s no surprise why Saban might not have been thrilled.
