Officer who arrested Alabama players ‘hates LSU,’ despite Nick Saban’s claim

Nick-Saban-Paul-Finebaum

At least one of the police officers who arrested Alabama All-Pro offensive lineman Cam Robinson and defensive back Hootie Jones back in May was not an LSU fan.

As you may have seen, Alabama coach Nick Saban went off on ESPN’s Paul Finebaum Wednesday after Finebaum asked if Robinson and Jones are going to be suspended despite not being charged. Although the players were arrested on drug and weapon charges, they were not prosecuted. For that reason, Saban implied that they won’t be suspended.

The real fireworks between Saban and Finebaum came off the air, when Saban reportedly launched four-letter words at Finebaum and insinuated the arresting officers were LSU fans looking to stick it to Bama players. Monroe Police public information officer Chris Bates told Glenn Guilbeau of USA Today that those allegations are far from the truth.

“I can tell you for a fact that the first officer on the scene is not an LSU fan,” Bates said. “He hates LSU. He doesn’t like the color yellow or purple and gold. In fact, he’s a Florida fan. If you mention LSU around him, he throws up in his mouth. Most of our officers are LSU fans, but we have some who are Arkansas fans and Georgia fans and Alabama fans. And I’ll tell you this, the first officer did not even know those guys were players.”

If you insist on subscribing to Saban’s theory, you could argue that the motives for a hardcore Florida fan would be similar.

Whatever the case, Saban’s rant against Finebaum was pretty entertaining, albeit uncalled for. You can see the video here.
