Oklahoma fires co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell

Jay Norvell OklahomaOklahoma is making big changes to its coaching staff following a disappointing year capped by an embarrassing bowl loss to Clemson.

The Sooners, which scored just six points in a 40-6 loss to the Tigers last week, fired co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell. FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman reports that at least two other significant changes are expected to come.

The Oklahoman says running backs coach Cale Gundy, offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh and defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery are the only assistant coaches who have job security.

On an interesting note, head coach Bob Stoops may be losing his brother Mike to LSU. Mike Stoops reportedly is interviewing with Les Miles for LSU’s defensive coordinator job.

Oklahoma’s 8-5 season broke a string of four straight double-digit win seasons.
