Plaxico Burress rips Nick Saban

Nick Saban Alabama

Former NFL wide receiver Plaxico Burress played his college ball under Nick Saban during two record-setting seasons at Michigan State in 1998 and 1999. The two did not exactly part ways on the best of terms.

During Thursday night’s CFB Playoff game between Alabama and Ohio State, Burress felt it was a good time to remind his Twitter followers of why he dislikes his former coach.

Saban and Burress both ended up leaving Michigan State after the ’99 season, with the former taking the head coaching job at LSU and the latter being selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.

Players almost always feel slighted when their coach leaves to take another job. We saw it earlier this year when Jim McElwain was ripped by his players in all of these tweets as he left for Florida. But Burress insists Saban blindsided his guys.

In 2008, Burress said Saban blatantly lied to the Spartans when he told them he was not leaving for LSU.

“Then the next day, the very next day, Saban said, ‘Guys, I’m going to LSU,'” Burress said at the time. “So that let me know where he was coming from as a person and how loyal he was. I didn’t trust anything he said at that point. Nothing.”

Needless to say, Burress must have been pleased with the outcome of the Sugar Bowl.
