Rashaan Salaam

Former Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Salaam has died at the age of 42.

Salaam was found dead at a park in Boulder in Monday, according to a release from Colorado University.

“The Buff Family has lost an outstanding young man and a great Buff today,” Athletic Director Rick George said. “We are heartbroken for Rashaan and his family and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time.

Salaam was a running back at Colorado from 1992-1994. He won the Heisman in ’94 after rushing for 2,055 yards and 24 touchdowns while leading the Buffs to an 11-1 record.

Salaam was a first-round pick by the Bears in ’95. He rushed for 1,074 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rookie, but then his career quickly fizzled out.

Salaam’s name did come up over the weekend after Jordan Howard rushed for three touchdowns against the 49ers:
