Rich Rodriguez did not speak with Anu Solomon for two weeks after bowl loss

Rich Rodriguez was so steamed over the way the Fiesta Bowl unfolded that he did not speak with quarterback Anu Solomon for two weeks after the game.

Arizona lost to Boise State 38-30 after Solomon was sacked on 3rd-and-goal with 14 seconds left. Solomon inexplicably held onto the ball instead of throwing it away and giving his team a chance to score on fourth down.

According to a story in The Daily Wildcat, Rich Rod shunned his QB for two weeks as a result:

Rodriguez said he didn’t speak to the quarterback for two weeks because he was so mad after the Fiesta Bowl loss, in which Solomon went 28-49 and threw a pair of interceptions.

Solomon was just as critical of himself.

“It hurt the next couple weeks,” Solomon said. “I say it to myself, ‘Anu, you looked sloppy at times.’ Watching those films, watching those sloppy mistakes I made, I was so disappointed in myself.”

You could just tell that Rodriguez was ticked off after the loss. You have a true freshman who looks great most of the season, throwing for 28 touchdowns and only nine interceptions while leading the Wildcats to a 10-4 season, and then he goes out and does that to end the season. Oh, and if Rodriguez looked like he just lost thousands of dollars on that play, it’s because he did; Rodriguez would have received a $300,000 bonus had Arizona won the game.
