Sal Alosi is UCLA coach attacked by P. Diddy

Sal Alosi trip

Sal Alosi — the same guy who is notorious for tripping a Miami Dolphins player while serving as a coach on the New York Jets — is the previously unnamed UCLA assistant who was allegedly attacked by P. Diddy on Monday, TMZ reports.

Diddy was taken to UCLA campus jail and was expected to an LA county facility later in the evening after being charged for assault with a deadly weapon. He reportedly was upset with a UCLA coach for yelling at his son Justin, who is a defensive back on the Bruins.

UCLA said in a statement that Diddy went after Alosi with a kettlebell, which is popular in weight training.

Alosi, a former Hofstra football player, was hired by UCLA in early 2012 after Jim Mora took over the football program. Alosi coached on Mora’s Atlanta Falcons staff in 2006. He resigned from his job as strength coach of the Jets after being fined by the NFL for tripping Nolan Carroll on a punt return. Alosi had instructed people on the sidelines to form a human wall. He’s quite the gem.

UPDATE: Diddy reportedly hit Alosi then swung a kettlebell at a football intern. He is facing five charges.
