SEC officials missed penalty by Auburn on last play of game (Video)

SEC officials missed what should have been a penalty on the last play of the game between Auburn and South Carolina Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Auburn won the game 42-35 when Gamecocks quarterback Dylan Thompson was intercepted in the end zone as time expired. A look at the replay shows that Auburn actually had two defenders on the field wearing the same jersey number — No. 1. Defensive tackle Montravius Adams was in the game like usual, but the team also put receiver D’haquille Williams in for the last play, which they figured was going to be a pass to the end zone. A 5-yard penalty should have been called and South Carolina should have had another play. They would have had the ball at the 36, making their odds of scoring low but better than starting from the 41.

Interestingly, had the Gamecocks scored, Steve Spurrier said he would have gone for two.
