Stephen Morris: USF played dirty, grabbed my ankle
Stephen Morris blasted USF for playing dirty and trying to hurt his ankle during Miami’s 49-21 win over the Bulls on Saturday in Tampa.
Morris went 11/16 for 222 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Hurricanes’ win. He left the game early in the second quarter and gave way to junior Ryan Williams, who also threw for a score. Morris left after taking a big hit and deciding that he didn’t need to subject himself to the Bulls’ nonsense.
Following the game, the senior quarterback blasted South Florida for intentionally twisting his ankle in the piles and said he had no reason to be out there.
“South Florida’s a dirty team, to say the least,” Morris said, via the Palm Beach Post. “When you’re down and tackled and everything, and everyone’s on top, they’re going to try to go for your ankles and everything. We were up three, four touchdowns. Ain’t no point for me to mess with these guys who are going to play dirty.
“It is what it is. I wanted to score 70 points on them. They disrespected us, so I had no respect for them at all. So, at that point, I felt like we should just keep pushing it, keep killing them.”
Morris also said it was obvious that South Florida was targeting his ankle, which he bruised the previous weekend.
Morris’ passing yardage has been down this year, but he has thrown for five touchdowns and only two interceptions on the season.
