Steve Sarkisian has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against USC, claiming the school knew about his struggles with alcoholism well before he was terminated.

TMZ obtained a copy of the lawsuit, which shows that Sarkisian is suing for $30 million — the roughly $12.6 million he was owed for the remainder of his contract plus compensation for “mental anguish” as a result of being fired. Sark’s attorney says alcoholism is considered a disability in the state of California and that someone cannot be legally terminated because of it.

In the suit, Sarkisian claims that USC had “specific knowledge” of his drinking problems, as evidenced by USC AD Pat Haden making him sign a letter promising he would attend counseling after Sark embarrassed himself on stage at a Salute to Troy event over the summer.

Sarkisian also claims USC had specific knowledge of Steve’s alcohol issues — stemming from an incident at the Salute to Troy event back in August when he slurred and cussed on stage after consuming beers and prescription medication.

Sark says Haden made him sign a letter promising to attend counseling sessions and refrain from future embarrassing incidents fueled by booze.

Sark says the letter proves USC knew he was suffering from alcoholism back then — and had a duty to help him out … not fire him.

As many of you know, Sarkisian dropped an F-bomb and was slurring his words at the team event. You can see a video of the speech here.

We wouldn’t be surprised if USC settles or Sarkisian wins the case.
