TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl Could Be Worst Bowl Game Name in History

Feel free to just refer to it as the “Gator Bowl” if you please, because that’s what we plan on doing.  Representatives from the Gator Bowl announced on Thursday that there will be a new sponsor in town come 2012, TaxSlayer.com.  That’s right, the bowl game played in Jacksonville on Jan. 2 between an SEC and a Big Ten team is henceforth known as the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl.

For those who are curious, TaxSlayer.com is a website that helps with tax preparation.  I know, that was tough to figure out.  A year ago the Gator Bowl was sponsored by Progressive Insurance. While no name rings smoothly with a sponsor in front of it, the website names have to be the worst.

As CBSSports.com pointed out, the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl joins the GoDaddy.com Bowl and the TicketCity Bowl as the only bowl games sponsored by internet sites.  However, that does not mean a company cannot use their web address in the name of a bowl game.  For example, the PapaJohns.com Bowl may have had the worst name going last season.  Now that the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl has arrived, Papa John is off the hook.
