Tee Martin feels Greg Schiano would have been ‘good fit’ at Tennessee

Greg Schiano

Count former Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin as one figure associated with the school who thought highly of the Greg Schiano hire.

The current USC offensive coordinator believes Schiano would have been a good hire for the Volunteers, and was pleased with the initial hire.

“It was a tough deal,” Martin said, via Bill Rabinowitz of the Columbus Dispatch. “I have a lot of respect for Greg and what he’s done in his career as a football coach. When his name came up, I thought, ‘Wow, he’s a really good football coach.’ I thought it would have been a good fit.

“Obviously, it didn’t happen and it kind of took its path of however that happened. It is what it is. I can’t really speak too much to what went into that. But when the name initially got announced, I was like, ‘that’s a heckuva coach.'”

Backlash from the fan base ultimately sunk Schiano’s hire, and they wound up hiring Jeremy Pruitt instead. It sounds like Martin believes they should have stuck to their guns.
