Tennessee pays former AD John Currie $2.5 million in settlement

John Currie may be out of a job with Tennessee, but he sure is being compensated nicely for his time and effort.

Currie received a $2.5 million settlement from the University of Tennessee that ends his tenure as the school’s AD.

Currie, 46, was hired by Tennessee last February and was on the job for only around eight months. His big move to fire Butch Jones after his fifth season as the Vols’ football coach did not go well. Currie then led a comical coaching search that included his planned hiring of Greg Schiano being scuttled by protesting fans.

The school ended up suspending him and installing Phillip Fulmer as the interim AD. Fulmer wound up hiring Jeremy Pruitt as the football team’s head coach.

Due to Currie’s dealings with Schiano, the school may end up needing to reach a settlement with the coach.
