Tennessee spends over $600k on weight room improvements

The Tennessee Volunteers made an investment in their weight room in an effort to get the facility to new head coach Jeremy Pruitt’s liking.

The Vols added new flooring and equipment to the LaPorte Strength & Conditioning Facility at the Anderson Training Center on campus. According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, the improvements cost them $660,000.

Pruitt, who is entering his first season as the Vols’ head football coach, spoke recently about the importance of quality facilities.

“We want to make sure that when we spend our money, we put the student-athletes first,” Pruitt said last month, via the News Sentinel. “When we’re recruiting football players to Tennessee, we want to make sure they understand that we’re going to pour everything that we’ve got, which is available to us, to help them develop as a student first and then as a football player. To do that, you’ve got to invest in the weight room, and we did.”

On top of the improvements to the weight room, Tennessee is paying just over $900,000 to new strength coach Craig Fitzgerald and his assistant strength coaches.

The Vols seem to be moving well past their previous coaching search debacle. They’re hoping that they finally got things right with the Pruitt hire after a decade of disappointment.
