Tom Herman ‘not going to talk about other jobs’

Tom Herman Houston

Tom Herman will be among the most highly sought-after coaches throughout the season.

In his first year at Houston, the former Ohio State offensive coordinator led the Cougars to a 13-1 record — quite an improvement over the team’s 8-5 season the year before he got there. This season he’s 4-0 with a victory over Oklahoma to his name. Given his quick and significant success, he’s going to be mentioned any time there is a prominent coaching vacancy, such as the one at LSU that he was already connected to.

In an interview with ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt that aired on Thursday, Herman was asked how he would handle questions about his interest in jobs.

“Honesty,” Herman said of his approach. “I’m not going to talk about any other jobs. We love it here in Houston. My job is to maintain focus and to prepare our team to win football games each and every week. We have a really veteran and mature group that understands.

“I’m just happy to come to work every day and get to coach these guys — they’re a joy to coach.”

Herman already got a major raise to $2.8 million per season at Houston, and he stands to gain big if the school moves to a Power 5 conference. He seems to be committed to the Cougars, and he’s saying all the right things about staying there, which is all they could ask for.
