Tom Herman: Support from Houston chairman ‘means the world’
Tom Herman got emotional when thinking about the comments made by Tilman Fertitta about him this week.
Fertitta, the chairman of the University of Houston regents, said on Monday that if the Cougars lose Herman to another school, it won’t be for a lack of money. Translation: We will offer him as much money as anybody else who comes calling.
When asked Tuesday about Fertitta’s support, Herman got emotional and said it “means the world.”

Herman is in his second year as head coach of the Cougars and has led the team to a 9-2 record this season after going 13-1 last year. He has been a hot name on the coaching market, especially after leading the Cougars to wins over Oklahoma and Louisville. Reports indicate Texas may have the strongest interest in hiring Herman, but like Fertitta said, if the coach leaves, it will be for reasons other than money.
