Urban Meyer not happy with Ohio State offensive line

Urban Meyer sad

Ohio State did not look good as they escaped with a 20-13 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday in Columbus. Head coach Urban Meyer was not pleased with the team’s offensive performance and even called out the offensive line specifically.

“We live and die by the offensive line,” Meyer said in a postgame interview with ESPN. “I’m not blaming them, but we’re a pound you and play action team, and we’re not doing that. So we have to get that fixed. Good thing is we found a way to win against a very good team, but nothing near what we expect.”

Meyer again played both of his quarterbacks and did not see good results. JT Barrett went 11/19 for 97 yards, an interception and a touchdown, while Cardale Jones was 4/9 for 36 yards and two interceptions. He was surprised at the poor execution by the offense.

“I thought we had a good week of practice. We’re not a high-end execution team and we gotta get better,” Meyer said.

Meyer also indicated after the game that he might need to pick one starting quarterback and roll with him, but he again refused to yield much in that regard.

As far as the line goes, the Buckeyes ran the ball 37 times for 162 yards — good for a 4.4 average. They’re used to seeing much bigger numbers than that.
