Urban Meyer does not see Ohio State holding spring break practice in Florida

Urban Meyer

Urban Meyer said recently he would keep his mind open regarding Ohio State holding spring break practices in Florida much like Michigan did, but it sounds like he is leaning against it.

Meyer told reporters Tuesday that he cannot see the Buckeyes holding practices in Florida and taking away spring break from their players.

“Somebody asked me a question, ‘Would we look into it?'” Meyer said after practice on Tuesday via ESPN. “We look into everything. I can’t see taking spring break away from players.

“Somebody stuck a microphone in my face and I said [we’d look into it]. We wouldn’t take their free time away from them. If there’s some way to do something like that and it helps the players, we’ll look into it.”

Meyer began considering the possibility after Jim Harbaugh took Michigan to Florida for practices during spring break. The practice seemed to be fairly unprecedented, and it led to a lot of commentary and chirping from rival coaches. Harbaugh gave opposing coaches the idea to be copycats, but it looks like Ohio State will not be following the trend any time soon.

Given Meyer’s success since coming to Columbus, he seems to have things pretty well figured out. We doubt this will hurt business.
