USC linebacker on 7,000 calorie a day diet to bulk up

USC Trojans

What do you do if you’re a football player desperate to gain weight? Eat as many calories as you can.

That’s what USC’s Connor Murphy is up to. At 6-foot-7 and 260 pounds, he didn’t fit as a linebacker, so is trying to gain weight to shift to defensive end.

“Eat 7,000 calories a day and eat until I feel like I’m going to throw up, that’s my weight gain program,” Murphy said, via Alicia de Artola of Reign of Troy.

The coaches, including head coach Clay Helton, believe that Murphy would be a big asset as a lineman.

“You see the length and his frame growing and growing,” Helton said. “He’s a guy that we picture as a Rasheem Green-type body.”

7,000 calories is certainly a lot, though as we know from a certain Olympian, there’s a limit to what you can do.
