USC blasts Steve Sarkisian in response to lawsuit

USC has responded to the wrongful termination lawsuit filed by Steve Sarkisian, and they did not hold back.

Word emerged Monday that Sarkisian is suing USC, claiming they knew about his alcoholism and still fired him, causing him mental anguish. He is seeking $30 million, including the $12.6 million he is owed per his contract.

USC general counsel Carol Mauch Amir issued this statement in response.

“Much of what is stated in the lawsuit filed today by Steve Sarkisian is patently untrue,” the statement said. “While the university does not as a matter of practice comment on personnel matters or litigation, the record will show that Mr. Sarkisian repeatedly denied to university officials that he had a problem with alcohol, never asked for time off to get help, and resisted university efforts to provide him with help. The university made clear in writing that further incidents would result in termination, as it did. We are profoundly disappointed in how Mr. Sarkisian has mischaracterized the facts and we intend to defend these claims vigorously.”

Most people feel it is pretty ridiculous for Sarkisian to conduct himself so unprofessionally at a such a high-profile job and then later blame the school for the way they handled matters. What was USC supposed to do, let him continue to coach the team in his condition?

Plus, the record does support USC. Remember when Sark got drunk at a team event in August? The school addressed it seriously and wanted him to get treatment. Instead, Sark responded by denying he had a problem and acting like he was above getting treatment. Previously he didn’t want to recognize his issues with alcohol but now that he wants some money he’s using it as an excuse? That reeks of inconsistency.
