Florida football coach Will Muschamp gave a rather long-winded opening speech at SEC Media Day on Tuesday, but his comment about Ohio State made it all worthwhile. Earlier this month, a report surfaced about Urban Meyer allegedly turning in one of his former Florida assistants over what he thought was a minor recruiting violation. Naturally, Muschamp was asked about it.
“We appreciate our friends from Ohio making sure we’re complying with NCAA rules,” Muschamp said, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy. “They certainly know a lot about NCAA rules.”
The Buckeyes were banned from postseason last year because of penalties stemming from the Jim Tressel era, so Muschamp’s jab shouldn’t offend Meyer that badly. Urban denied trying to turn in Florida after he was made aware of the report, but it’s probably safe to assume Muschamp didn’t believe him after hearing his response to Tuesday’s question.
If anyone should be offended, it’s Florida assistant coach Brian White. The fact that Meyer allegedly tried to rat out Florida is not a surprise. Doing it to a former assistant that he hired is the part that’s a slap in the face.Google+
