Anna Benson was once on ‘America’s Most Wanted’ for alleged murder

Anna-Benson-mug-shotWe already knew that Anna Benson was pretty crazy, but now we’re learning that the big-mouthed wife of former New York Mets pitcher Kris Benson was also wanted for alleged murder nearly 20 years ago.

Benson, then 19, living in Nashville and known as Anna Warren, allegedly told her boyfriend to “get rid of” another man who supposedly said something that upset her. The victim, 18-year-old Michael Evans, was found dead inside a Nashville apartment after being shot twice in the head, police determined.

“When the argument happened in the apartment, it was because the victim said something Anna didn’t like,” Assistant Chief Clyde Cowan said, per the Daily News.

Five people were living in the Nashville apartment at the time of the murder. The apartment was said to be filthy, contain drug paraphernalia, and had Satanic and anti-cop messages written on the walls. Benson and her then boyfriend fled the apartment in a stolen car and were last seen headed to Georgia.

Benson was found in Oregon three months later. She was four months pregnant and had dyed her hair purple. She reportedly never gave a statement to police about what happened.

Her boyfriend, 19-year-old Paul Dejong, was captured in Atlanta seven months after the murder. Dejongh eventually pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, was sentenced to 21 years behind bars, and died in prison.

Benson was charged with accessory to murder, but the state dropped the charge over a lack of evidence.

After escaping the charge, Benson went to Atlanta and began working at a strip club where she soon met Kris. The two married after a year.

Kris filed for divorce from Anna a year ago and, last week, his soon-to-be ex allegedly stormed into his home carrying a gun, ammo, and knife while wearing a bulletproof vest.

I honestly wonder whether Kris knew anything about this murder case before marrying her. They have three children together and were also raising Anna’s child from a previous marriage.
