Elin Nordegren on Tiger Woods: The word ‘betrayal’ is not strong enough

Tiger Woods family

Elin Nordegren finally opened up about her relationship with ex-husband Tiger Woods, which she describes as now being pretty positive. But before working things out with her ex post-divorce, Elin says she felt a strong sense of betrayal from the golf star.

“I felt safe with him,” Nordegren told People magazine. “The word betrayal isn’t strong enough.”

Nordegren, now 34, divorced Tiger in August 2010. Everything went sour over Thanksgiving in 2009 when Elin learned that the National Enquirer was planning to release a story about Tiger’s cheating/womanizing ways. That story led to a huge fight between Elin and Tiger at their home. Elin supposedly was so heated she began swinging a golf club at Tiger. Panicked, he attempted to flee in his Escalade and wound up crashing his car. After that, the floodgates opened and every day a new report emerged about a woman Tiger had sex with while married.

Tiger is back playing golf, Elin has graduated from college, and they’ve both moved on in their personal lives. The good news for their children’s sake is that they get along well now.

“I have moved on and I am in a good place,” Nordegren told People. “My relationship with Tiger is centered around our children and we are doing really good – we really are – and I am so happy that is the case. He is a great father.”

Things were really bad between them during that rough first year, but it’s nice they’ve worked things out and can get along. Elin held so much animosity towards Tiger at first that that didn’t even seem like a possibility at one point.
