Jackie Robinson West whistleblower Chris Janes arrested for assault

The man who dropped the dime that resulted in Jackie Robinson West vacating their US Little League World Series title was reportedly arrested for assault in a bizarre incident involving alcohol early Tuesday morning.

According to Mark Konkol of DNAInfo.com, an intoxicated Chris Janes tried to enter a neighbor’s home at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday and wound up being charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault and obstructing a police officer.

At 1:09 a.m. Tuesday, a woman told police that after she pulled into her driveway a man who she didn’t recognize and was later identified as Janes chased her into her house, banged on her door, yelled obscenities and threatened her husband, Donovan said.

After officers arrested Janes, he refused to identify himself, struggled with officers and verbally abused paramedics who treated him for a minor cut on his arm, Donovan said.

Janes, 39, is the vice president of Evergreen Park Little League — a team that Jackie Robinson West defeated 43-2. He admitted to DNAInfo.com that he had too much to drink, went to the wrong house and “scared some poor people.”

“I’m embarrassed. I feel awful,” Janes said. “I’m very sorry to my neighbors that I scared. I didn’t know them and they don’t know me. I just had a conversation with my family about how foolish I am.

“This is in no way a reflection of Evergreen Park Athletic Association Little League whatsoever. I hope people don’t bridge the two together.”

Janes said he has had to deal with death threats since turning in Jackie Robinson West. Little League Baseball stripped the Chicago-based team of its title after determining that it broke rules regarding district lines and boundaries.
