Owen Daniels a fantasy option at tight end

Owen Daniels Ravens

Owen Daniels had an excellent game for the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night and caught two touchdowns in his team’s 26-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, making him seem like a popular fantasy football pickup possibility. But don’t get too excited.

Daniels caught all five of his targets for 28 yards and the two scores. In Week 1, he caught four passes on six targets for 34 yards.

Daniels is a veteran who spent eight seasons with the Houston Texans, catching 29 touchdowns in 100 career games. He’s a capable player and will continue to receive some targets for Baltimore, but is he worth a fantasy football pickup? That depends on how your tight end situation looks.

Dennis Pitta is still the top tight end target for the Ravens. Though he only saw four targets and caught three passes on Thursday night, he was targeted 14 times and caught 10 passes in the season opener. We anticipate both players will see plenty of action moving forward as long as they’re healthy, but Pitta will probably see more targets than Daniels.

I would recommend picking up Daniels in fantasy only if 3-4 points per week from your tight end is an improvement over what you currently have.
