Report: 49ers have made NaVorro Bowman available for trade

The San Francisco 49ers may be regretting the four-year extension they signed linebacker NaVorro Bowman to last year.

Mike Lombardi of The Ringer said on his podcast “The NFL Show” this week that the 49ers have “made it known” that they are open to trading Bowman. However, the chances of them finding a trade partner are incredibly slim.

Bowman is one of the best inside linebackers in football when healthy, but he has now suffered two major injuries since the 2014 playoffs. Most recently, Bowman tore his Achilles in November just three months after he signed a four-year, $44 million extension that included $20 million guaranteed. The 28-year-old was still under contract with San Francisco for three more seasons at the time, so the deal was basically for seven years and $77 million.

Good luck unloading that.

Bowman tore both his ACL and MCL in 2014, and he bounced back to record a career-high 154 total tackles in 2015. The best the 49ers can hope for is that he does that again this upcoming season.
