Report: Some 49ers players want Colin Kaepernick benched

Colin Kaepernick hat backwards

Colin Kaepernick looked like Colin Kaepernick in Sunday’s 27-6 loss to the St. Louis Rams, and that is not a good thing. He continued to struggle throwing the ball, and there are rumblings that at least some of Kaepernick’s teammates have had enough.

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report says he received text messages from two San Francisco 49ers players after the game and that both said they want Kaepernick benched.

“Two 49ers players texted me after that game and said that it is time for Colin Kaepernick to be benched,” Cole reported Sunday. “This loss to the Rams was a tipping point for them in a series of events that have been building and building to this point. Most of this revolves around Kaepernick’s performance on the field.”

Kaepernick completed just 20 of 41 passes for 162 yards. He did not throw a touchdown and has not thrown an interception since Week 4, but he isn’t doing nearly enough to give his team a chance to win.

Cole added that the players who texted him don’t want Kaepernick out of the team’s future plans, but they think he needs time on the bench to clear his head and help him better understand the offense. On Sunday, Kaepernick failed to change a play at the line of scrimmage when one of his receivers literally had no one covering him.

There have been reports that Kaepernick’s teammates are getting annoyed with him for some unique reasons, and two Niners players got into a “heated” exchange about the 27-year-old during a team meeting earlier this season. The problem is Blaine Gabbert is Kaepernick’s backup. Would the results be better with him? You can probably answer that for yourself.
