49ers reportedly in trade talks with multiple teams over No. 2 pick

John Lynch

The San Francisco 49ers have made it clear they are willing to trade the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. They continue to show that.

CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reports that the 49ers have had talks with six teams about trading the second pick. He says three of the teams re picking in the top 10, while the other three are outside of it.

San Francisco has a big need at quarterback, as they’re entering the season under first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan with Brian Hoyer at QB. But it’s unclear whether they feel any particular QB is worthy of the No. 2 pick. Another player who has been mentioned in connection with San Francisco’s pick is LSU RB Leonard Fournette.

You get the sense that the 49ers would like to trade down if they receive a package they feel is worthwhile. After all, new GM John Lynch famously said they were “open for business.”
