Aaron Rodgers initially thought he tore his Achilles

Ndamukong Suh Aaron Rodgers

When Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers aggravated his injured calf during Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions, he thought he had played his last snap of the season.

“My initial thought was I popped my Achilles,” Rodgers said Tuesday, per ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.

That would have been really, really bad. If Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles, he would have been out for several months and may not have even been ready for the start of the 2015 season. Fortunately, Rodgers is dealing with an injury that he should be able to play through if he takes the proper precautions — especially with two weeks to rest.

That said, Rodgers added that he was playing at less than 100 percent against the Lions even before aggravating the injury.

“Can’t say either way what percentage (the injury) will be, but I hope it’s going to be feeling better than it was last weekend,” Rodgers said.

The good news for Rodgers is that the odds of this happening to him again in Green Bay’s next game are very slim. That should make the healing process a bit easier.
