Aaron Rodgers not placing urgency on contract extension

Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but he’s no longer paid like one now that many other quarterbacks have gotten new deals to surpass his. Though that is the case, Rodgers does not seem to have any urgency for getting a contract extension.

“I’m not talking with them, [agent David Dunn is] talking with them,” Rodgers said from camp on Thursday, via ESPN. “I don’t know. That’s a big what-if, and we still have plenty of time before that.

“I don’t know if there’s a time table. The feelings haven’t changed. Obviously I’d love to be here and I think they’ve spoken at length about wanting to extend my deal. But now that I’m here my focus is definitely on other places. It’s on my teammates, my leadership role, my performance on the field.

Rodgers is making around $40 million over the next two seasons and set to become a free agent after the 2019 season. He probably has faith that the Green Bay Packers will give him a fair deal when the time comes, so there’s no reason to panic. Green Bay would have to be crazy to let him go, even if he will be 36 when he hits free agency.

Rodgers recently talked about being open to a non-traditional contract for his next deal.
