Adrian Peterson not expected to attend Vikings’ voluntary workout

Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson is not expected to attend the first day of the Minnesota Vikings’ voluntary workout Monday, though that might not be too alarming for the team.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson reports that Peterson has a history of not attending the first day of voluntary workouts and that his attendance at them is “sporadic.” A better indicator of whether or not Peterson plans to hold out/force a trade will come in May and June when the team has organized/mandatory workouts.

The Vikings hold organized team activities in late May and early June, and their mandatory minicamp is June 16-18. Peterson receives a $250,000 workout bonus if he attends 90 percent of the team’s OTAs and minicamp. He can begin being fined by the team in June if he misses their mandatory workouts.

If Peterson decides not to attend any of the offseason workouts prior to training camp, he could lose around $322,000 between forfeiting his workout bonus and fines for missing minicamp.

Peterson has been reinstated by the NFL after being placed on the commissioner’s list amid his child abuse case. He wants a fresh start with a new team, and the Vikings reportedly have set their trade price for him.
