Adrian Peterson has successful knee surgery; Vikings refute torn LCL report

The Minnesota Vikings announced on Thursday that Adrian Peterson underwent successful surgery to repair the torn meniscus in his right knee. Interestingly enough, the team insists that is Peterson’s only injury.

“Adrian Peterson had a successful lateral meniscus repair this morning,” a statement from the Vikings read, via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “The surgery was performed by team physician Chris Larson at Twin Cities Orthopedics. There were no additional injuries or issues noted in or surrounding the knee joint during the surgical procedure. The rehabilitation process will begin immediately.”

The latter half of the statement seemed to be in direct response to a report from Wednesday that claimed Peterson has a torn lateral collateral ligament (LCL) in addition to the MCL. Two ligament tears would, in theory, make it even more difficult for Peterson to return this season.

Either way, it appears Peterson will miss at least three or four months. While we can never rule out an odds-defying recovery after he once rushed for 2,000 yards the year after he tore his ACL, there is talk that we may have seen A.P. play his last snap for the Vikings.
