Adrian Peterson reportedly not in Vikings’ future plans

Adrian Peterson mugshot

Adrian Peterson apparently has no clue about the severity of the charges he is facing and how much his NFL future could change as a result.

Peterson was indicted a little over a week ago on charges of injuring a child after multiple wounds were found on his 4-year-old son. Peterson admitted to hitting the boy with a switch as discipline, but he didn’t think there was anything inappropriate about his actions. The Vikings initially deactivated him for their Week 2 game, but they immediately reinstated him for Week 3. That plan changed after a report came out about a separate case he was investigated for regarding an injury to another one of his sons. The Vikings then placed him on the commissioner’s exempt list, meaning he could not return to the team until his legal matters were resolved.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Peterson does not comprehend that his season is likely over and that his NFL future is uncertain as a result of the charges he faces. Mort describes Peterson as being in denial over his future. He also reports that Peterson is not in the Vikings’ future plans.

This makes sense. If the Vikings hadn’t botched the situation by activating Peterson so quickly, they wouldn’t have received as much negative PR. Because they activated him, they almost have to keep Peterson away for a long time to prove they don’t condone the running back’s actions.

Additionally and perhaps most relevantly, Roger Goodell said in his press conference on Friday that penalties were going to change concerning child abuse and domestic violence. That’s enough reason to believe Peterson will be punished harshly for the abuse crimes.

I wonder what gave it away that Peterson doesn’t get it? Perhaps that he actually SMILED in his mugshot? Or maybe it was the surreal tweets he sent, such as how he wants a polygraph?
