AJ Green reportedly signs four-year, $60 million deal with Bengals

AJ Green

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed wide receiver A.J. Green to a four-year extension.

Jim Owczarski of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the new deal is worth $60 million over four years. Green was already under contract for 2015 at a salary of just over $10 million, meaning the extension equates to a five-year, $70 million deal.

It’s no coincidence that Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas both signed five-year, $70 million contracts with the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos, respectively, during the offseason. Green wanted to be one of the highest-paid receivers in the league, and the Bengals reportedly were able to get a deal done before the season by offering him significant money up front and slightly less guaranteed than Bryant and Thomas.

Green, 27, has eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark in each of his four NFL seasons. He caught just 69 passes last year while battling through injuries but still managed to rack up 1,041 yards and six touchdowns.

Between Andy Dalton, Jeremy Hill and now Green, the Bengals have a solid core of players locked up for the long-term on offense.
