Jaguars receiver Allen Hurns is allergic to grass

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns has a rather unique problem: he’s allergic to grass.

An NFL player allergic to grass sounds like a huge problem, but for Hurns, it’s more of a nuisance. When his skin makes contact with grass, he has rashes and breakouts that vary in severity.

“Sometimes I break out. Sometimes I don’t,” Hurns said, via ESPN’s Mike DiRocco. “At times it gets pretty aggravating, but for the most part it’s been holding up good.”

Hurns wears long-sleeve shirts or sleeves, no matter how warm it is, to try to prevent the allergy from becoming an issue. Training in Florida during the summer, this can get a bit difficult, but Hurns said it’s just something he copes with.

Whatever the case, it hasn’t impacted Hurns’s production. He has caught 16 touchdowns in his first two seasons and just got $40 million from Jacksonville.

Allergies aren’t unusual, even for pro athletes – remember, Adrian Peterson has a pretty notable allergy. Still, most are not triggered by something that the athlete would come in contact with every single day as part of the game. Hurns is certainly a unique case.
