Report: Andrew Luck could be out against Texans

Andrew Luck

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is reportedly in danger of missing a second consecutive game.

When the Colts released backup quarterback Josh Johnson earlier this week, it was viewed as a good sign for Luck’s Week 5 status. The team later re-signed Johnson, but it seemed like that move was made because second-string quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has been battling an illness.

There may be more to it than that.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that it “would not be a surprise” if Hasselbeck started over Luck against the Houston Texans Thursday night. Colts coach Chuck Pagano told reporters on Thursday that the team will “do the right thing” with Luck and his injured shoulder.

While there is reportedly no structural damage in Luck’s throwing shoulder, he is dealing with some soreness and loss of a strength that was caused by partial separation. The optimism surrounding his Week 5 status seems to have faded as the week has progressed.
