Andy Reid on Marcus Peters’ interaction with fans: ‘can’t go in that direction’

Andy Reid has spoken with Marcus Peters about his interaction with a fan on Monday and urged Peters to act in a more professional manner.

During the Chiefs’ victory over the Redskins, Peters was caught on camera yelling expletives towards the stands at Arrowhead Stadium. You can see a clearly frustrated Peters below.

Reid has since addressed the matter with Peters. Reid offered a compliment about Peters’ willingness to compete and work ethic. Reid also said actions like that are not what he wants to see from his players.

“I had a chance to see what took place,” Reid told ESPN. “We can’t go in that direction. It’s been addressed. I love the compete in the kid. I appreciate his work ethic and everything else but as professionals that’s not something we want to take place.”

Peters had an up and down game against Washington. He gave up two touchdowns, but also contributed to the fumble at the end of the game that led to Justin Houston’s touchdown.

Peters has blossomed into one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL since being drafted No. 18 overall in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2015 and has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of his two seasons as a professional.
