Carolina Panthers RB Armond Smith ejected for groin kick (Video)
As a player who is on the roster bubble, Carolina Panthers running back Armond Smith was looking to make an impression during a preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. Smith managed to capture the spotlight after his first carry, but not in a good way.
After breaking off a 10-yard run and picking up a first down in the fourth quarter, Smith kicked Ravens linebacker Albert McClellan in the groin as he was picking himself up off the turf. The stunt was idiotic enough as is, let alone doing it directly in the referee’s line of sight. Smith earned himself an ejection for the cheap shot.
If Smith ends up being cut, the Panthers will almost certainly cite Thursday night’s incident as a contributing factor in their decision. There’s no place in the game for crap like that, which is why it is amazing that a player would channel his inner Ndamukong Suh while trying to earn a roster spot.
