Bashaud Breeland initially viewed Josh Norman signing as ‘disrespect’

Josh Norman

When you have the opportunity to sign a top cornerback like Josh Norman, you do it, and you’d expect your players to be happy when you do. One Washington player, however, was initially pretty displeased with the Josh Norman signing.

Why? It was the team’s previous No. 1 corner, Bashaud Breeland, and he felt “disrespected.”

“To be honest, at first I took it as disrespect,” Breeland told SiriuxXM NFL Radio, via Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk. “Me being a competitor, trying to be at that level as a No. 1 corner not only on the team but in the league as well.”

Fear not, though. Breeland has come around on the signing, calling it a “chess move” that improves the team. Breeland also believes that he and Norman can make each other better.

Frankly, this is probably great for Breeland. Washington had to upgrade their pass defense, Breeland will get to face No. 2 receivers now and grow as a player out of the spotlight a bit, the team is better, and Norman’s contract sets the new standard for elite cornerbacks. No real reason to complain here. It’s not about disrespect.
