Ben Roethlisberger denies asking Steelers to get a tight end

Ben Roethlisberger

Ben Roethlisberger would like to make it clear that he’s not trying to play general manager for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Roethlisberger strongly denied an NFL Network report stating that he has been lobbying the team for a tight end in the NFL Draft, saying that he has full faith in the organization to do what is best without him butting in.

“The report of me lobbying to draft a tight end or pass catcher is wrong,” Roethlisberger said in a statement to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk. “Coaches and teammates know I love the guys we have and always believe we can win. I trust the organization to do their best selecting players to help us, and and every year they tell me generally the positions they are exploring, but I have not lobbied or demanded we add a tight end or pass catcher or any other position through the draft or free agency.”

Either way, the same report stated that the Steelers had their eyes on someone else anyway. Roethlisberger likely knows what’s going on and has offered some opinions, but the organization isn’t going to bend that much for one player, even if it is him.
