Ben Roethlisberger has lost 15 pounds

Ben-Roethlisberger

Big Ben is aiming to be a little less big when the 2016 NFL season gets underway.

Ben Roethlisberger’s agent, Ryan Tollner, told ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler this week that the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback has been on a “high-cardio” workout regimen this offseason and has already lost 15 pounds. Tollner says Roethlisberger was unable to do that in the past because he was not healthy enough.

“He couldn’t really work out because he kept getting hurt,” the agent explained. “I think he said after the season, you know what, I’m going to lose weight to alleviate potential pain in my joints.”

Steelers fans should be happy to hear that Roethlisberger has entered the offseason healthy, as he dealt with several injuries during the 2015 season. Big Ben missed four games with a sprained MCL and bone bruise. He also suffered a foot sprain and separated his shoulder on this brutal hit from Vontaze Burfict in the playoffs.

Roethlisberger’s size is one of the reasons he is so difficult to bring down and such a dangerous pocket passer. But he recently turned 34 and was listed at 240 pounds last season. Shedding some weight should be beneficial for the two-time Super Bowl champion.
