Ben Roethlisberger was ‘really surprised’ Browns passed on Carson Wentz
Ben Roethlisberger couldn’t help but rub a little bit of salt in the Cleveland Browns’ wound.
The Steelers quarterback voiced his surprise that the Browns had traded the No. 2 pick in last April’s draft instead of selecting Wentz, who ultimately ended up in Philadelphia.
“I was really surprised,” Roethlisberger said Wednesday, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I thought I would be facing him two times a year in Cleveland.”
Roethlisberger had plenty of praise for Wentz, whom it should be noted he shares an agent with.
“I think he’s doing a really good job of that right now, letting the game come to him, not forcing it,” Roethlisberger said. “You see him throwing balls away, not trying to make too many crazy throws down the field and using his legs when needed.”
The Browns have defended themselves by saying they didn’t rate Wentz that highly. They’re probably sweating that already. If he turns into a quality quarterback, they’ll look quite dumb for passing him up.
