Bengals fire offensive coordinator Ken Zampese

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals have not been able to put the ball in the end zone through their first two games this season, and already they are making a major change to their coaching staff.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported on Friday that the Bengals were firing offensive coordinator Ken Zampese, and the team later made the announcement official. Quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor has been promoted to OC.

Zampese has been with the Bengals since 2003. He was a quarterbacks coach with the team from 2003-2015 before being promoted to offensive coordinator.

No one expected the Bengals to come out looking like the 2007 New England Patriots, but their offense was shockingly bad in the first two games. They were shut out by the Baltimore Ravens at home last week and managed just three field goals in a 13-9 loss to the Houston Texans Thursday night. Judging by the comments he made after the loss to Houston, it’s safe to assume A.J. Green won’t be sad to see Zampese go.

If the Bengals don’t turn things around quickly, Zampese could end up being just the first domino to fall. Marvin Lewis won’t be far behind.
