Bill Belichick gives boss answer to question about goal-line play (Video)

Bill BelichickBill Belichick looked like an absolute boss in his postgame interview with NBC’s Dan Patrick after his Patriots won the Super Bowl 28-24 on Sunday.

Patrick asked Belichick a question about the stunning play call by the Seahawks to throw the ball on second down from the 1-yard line. Patrick was probably expecting Belichick to say the play call surprised him — I mean shoot, it surprised all of us — but he maintained his usual, stoic state, and proved that his team almost knew what was coming.

“What about the play call by Russell Wilson — the pass play at the goal line — what were you expecting?” Patrick asked.

“Uh you know their goal-line plays … so that doesn’t surprise me,” Belichick said without blinking.

“Did you expect Marshawn Lynch and just hope if he did throw that you were in the right defense?” Patrick followed up.

“Well they do a lot of things down there,” said Belichick, “we had to be ready for everything.”

Maybe this is exactly why Belichick did not let the Seahawks score a touchdown to give his team time to tie the game and send it to overtime. They had prepared for these situations so much, they knew what to expect and what play calls would come, so Belichick trusted his defense to get the stops. I thought he was employing a bad strategy, but he proved his defense knew exactly what it was doing.
