Bill Belichick does not care about midseason grades

It’s customary for many writers and reporters to hand out midseason grades around this time of year for the teams they cover. The Patriots are no exception. On Wednesday, a reporter made the mistake of broaching the subject in front of Bill Belichick.

The notoriously prickly Patriots coach was asked to talk about Tom Brady, with the reporter calling him “just about everybody’s midseason MVP.” Belichick wasn’t even a little bit interested in that.

“That’s great,” Belichick said, via CSN New England’s Tom E. Curran. “But honestly I don’t think anybody is really focused on that. We’re focused on the Giants. And some midseason report card, who cares? What difference does it make? Give me an F. Give me a C+. Right now we’re focused on the Giants. That’s all I really care about.”

“I don’t give grades,” he continued. “I’m worried about the Giants. We’re trying to beat the Giants. I don’t really care about some midseason midterm grades. Give me whatever you want.”

Belichick isn’t exactly verbose on the best of days, so his attitude toward things like midseason grades is not even remotely surprising. Then again, given the sort of thing that the Patriots use as fuel, he may use getting an F as a motivational tool.
