Bill Polian places incredibly high trade value on Nick Foles

Nick Foles

The Philadelphia Eagles have likely already received some trade inquiries regarding Nick Foles, but one Hall of Fame NFL executive does not think the team should deal its backup quarterback unless they are blown away by an offer.

How blown away are we talking? In a segment on ESPN’s “NFL Live” Monday, Polian said he thinks the starting negotiation in trade talks for Foles should be two first-round draft picks and two second-rounders.

That type of offer would be unprecedented, especially for a quarterback that is likely going to be holding a clipboard for much of the 2018 season. Foles is in a very unique situation in that he just led his team on a remarkable playoff run that ended with a Super Bowl title, but Carson Wentz was playing at an MVP level prior to tearing his ACL. There’s no QB controversy in Philly, and teams interested in Foles know that.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings for a first-round pick and a fourth-round pick prior to the 2016 season, so that will likely be considered the market value for Foles. Bradford didn’t win a Super Bowl, but you can’t expect teams to trade their entire draft for Foles just because he did.

Foles will count $7.6 million against the salary cap in 2018, so the Eagles could save a good chunk of money by trading him and going with a cheaper option. However, we saw how important having a trusted backup was for them last season. While the reports we have heard about Wentz’s recovery have been encouraging, the Eagles may decide they prefer having the security of a Super Bowl champion as their second option.
