Blaine Gabbert traded to 49ers

Blaine GabbertThe Jacksonville Jaguars have finally given up on former first-round pick Blaine Gabbert.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on “NFL Insiders” Tuesday that the Jags traded Gabbert to the San Francisco 49ers for a 6th-round pick.

Gabbert spent parts of three mostly terrible seasons with Jacksonville. He threw for 22 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in his Jags career.

Gabbert will likely compete for the backup quarterback job in San Francisco. Colt McCoy served as Colin Kaepernick’s backup last season but is currently a free agent.

I really have no idea what the Niners see in Gabbert, but I do trust Harbaugh’s judgment and ability to develop QBs more than anyone else, so maybe this will work out. Or maybe the best plan is hope that Kaepernick never gets hurt.

Anyone else surprised the Jags managed to get anything in return for Gabbert?
