Report: Brad Childress to become Chiefs offensive coordinator

Brad Childress will reportedly be promoted to the role of offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.

News of the promotion came from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, citing a source.

Childress previously served as the Chiefs’ spread-game coordinator. He has an extensive history under Andy Reid, having been on his staff for seven years in Philadelphia, the last three as offensive coordinator. He also spent four and a half years at the helm of the Minnesota Vikings, with two playoff appearances and one ill-advised Brett Favre interception away from a Super Bowl appearance.

It’s unclear if Childress will call plays, but he didn’t in Philadelphia and Reid has been calling them for Kansas City.

Childress is replacing Doug Pederson, who, thanks in part to his own ties with Reid, left to coach the Eagles.
